The Market Theatre Foundation is an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, anchored by artistic independence and creative autonomy. For 5 decades we have fearlessly pushed boundaries, offering locally and internationally acclaimed storytelling as a landmark of inclusivity and co-creation, resisting apartheid since 1976. We receive an annual grant subsidy from the Department which covers around 70% of our total annual budget. For the rest, we are reliant on donations from charitable foundations, corporates, and individuals to continue our impactful and far-reaching artistic mission.
Your donation will go towards our developmental and educational work: to the Market Theatre Laboratory which trains our next generation of actors and theatre practitioners, to the Market Photo Workshop which trains our future visual storytellers and digital media practitioners; and to our children who discover and develop their expressions at the Windybrow Arts Centre in Hillbrow.
Even though it may be a warm day when you set out, the weather in the mountains can change suddenly. Bring wet weather clothing so you can stay warm, dry, and wind-protected. In case you fall in, make sure to bring a complete change of clothing.
