The Market Photo Workshop began in the premises of the the old Newtown post office in Bree Steet, Johannesburg. While having since moved to a location opposite the bus factory on President Street, the Photo Workshop has distinctly situated itself within the Newtown environment, providing access to the surrounding communities as well as informing the cultural milieu that has become part of the Newtown identity.

The Photo Workshop currently encompasses a school of photography with long and short courses, and a gallery space. The Photo Workshop Gallery is a space in which to showcase photographers’ and students work, as well as providing a platform for the Photo Workshop’s varied public engagement projects.
