Bongiwe Phakathi is a photographer, image maker and narrator of social realities. Born in Sebokeng, Vaal.
She began her studies at the Market Photo Workshop in 2014 and completed the Advance Programme in Photography in 2016. She also has a background in graphic design.
Through the creation of zines and collages she illustrates the realities of ‘self’ and larger community. Exploring themes of spatial navigation, organization and migration, as well as notions of home. Her experimental processes manipulate both photography and the object which is photographed, which she sees as both a self-reflective and confrontational exercise.
