
The Market Theatre Foundation invites applications for the post of
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Market Theatre Foundation (MTF), an internationally renowned and award-winning performing arts and visual arts institution based in Johannesburg seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the post of Chief Executive Officer.
The MTF is a Cultural Institution governed in terms of the Cultural Institutions Act No 119 of 1998, as amended, and is an entity of the Department of Sports, Arts & Culture.
The successful applicant must be an experienced and competent leader with a high level of integrity, be knowledgeable about the South African arts & cultural sector, and have the knowledge, experience and skills to lead the Market Theatre Foundation as its Accounting Officer.
Required qualifications and competencies:
· A post-graduate degree in Humanities, Social Sciences or Management.
· Sound financial experience aligned to responsibilities for budgets and managing the institution’s financial well-being in line with the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations and resolutions of the Council of the Market Theatre Foundation.
· Proven ability to lead and manage arts and cultural institutions within the framework of the Cultural Institutions Act,
· At least 5 years relevant experience, at Senior Management, in the arts and culture sector.
· Understanding of governance procedures and liaison with a Council/Board and its Committees; and of serving as an ex-officio member of Council and Council Committees.
· The incumbent takes responsibility for administrative liaison with the Chairperson of Council, Chairpersons of Committees, and with the Company Secretariat.
· Proven experience in strategic planning and the ability to formulate and drive the institution’s five-year Strategic Plan, and Annual Performance Plan.
· Experience to deliver on all required statutory and regulatory compliance reporting, with excellent report writing skills.
· Proven experience at Senior Management level – management of staff, negotiating with Unions, and being conversant with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the South African Labour Relations Act, and experience in working with HR transformation matters.
· Proven ability to develop and implement policies, systems and standard operating procedures at all levels of the organisation; and to be the custodian of the Market Theatre Foundation’s records.
· Competitive fundraising and marketing experience within the arts & culture sector.
· Excellent communication, public speaking, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
· Visionary and strategic leadership capacity to advance the MTF’s reputation as a leading and multi-award-winning Cultural Institution with a strong South African footprint, relevant international networks and a reputation for artistic excellence.
· Experience in Risk or IT management would be an advantage.
