Réunion Chronique
The Réunion Chroniques exhibition opened at The Photo Workshop Gallery on 29 April, and ran until 13 May 2009.
The Market Photo Workshop, in association with the French Institute of South Africa, presents Réunion Chroniques, an exhibition, presentation and discussion of work produced by photographers based in Réunion Island.
The exhibition explores the landscape, culture and identity of Réunion Island. Photographers involved in the exhibition include François-Louis Athenas, Raymond Barthes, Thierry Fontaine, Yo-Yo Gonthier, Line Leclerc, Edgar Marsy, René-Paul Savignan, and Laurent Zitte.
On the opening night two presentations were screened. The first, titled Bridges, features work by Andrew Tshabangu and René-Paul Savignan. The second presentation consists of photographs by students from the Market Photo Workshop, produced in conjunction with photographers Laurent Zitte, Frédéric Pothin and René-Paul Savignan.
The presentations were followed by a discussion between curator Natalie Gonthier, the head of the Market Photo Workshop, John Fleetwood, photographers Laurent Zitte, Frédéric Pothin, René-Paul Savignan and students who participated in the project.
